I can't see my reflection in the water/I shall be released.

Seeing Dylan tonight at the United Palace Theater up in Harlem.
Though some come close, his meaning in my life greatly surpasses all other music and musicians.
For me, now, getting to see him play, here at this moment in my life, in this place, in this city, with all the romance of my history pressed up against me, pushing me forward into the overwhelming scale and mystery of the great next unknown
with every thing gained and lost, all those loved, things torn,
it'll be like coming home after a very long time, from unexpected travels that have made me heart-worn, heart-stronger.

A prodigal son to the father.
A lost child to it's mother.
Beginning to the end to begin again.
A light come shining.

Would you be an outlaw for my love?

In my (and many others - The Replacements, Elliott Smith, R.E.M., Teenage Fanclub, etc.) music universe, Big Star are a massive force, and tonight they are playing at the Masonic Hall in Brooklyn, just 7 blocks from my house.
I've never seen them live and I lucked out on a guest list spot via Rhino/Warner Bros.
Big ups to Cyndi for that.
Though it's not the original line-up, this is a show that I am looking forward to the most
in many, many years (aside from Dylan, who I am seeing tomorrow night).
Can't wait.

Thrown like a star in my vast sleep.

Other Music in New York is one of three in the world all tied for first place for best record store.
The other two are Mississippi Records in Portland and Honest Jons in London.
Every time I go into any one of them, I am overjoyed and feel like a little kid in complete wonderment.
And at Other Music, I'm lucky enough to know my friend, Daniel Givens, who every time I see him, turns me onto something new.
Recently it was the album "Catholic" from Patrick Cowley & Jorge Socarras.
And now it's my honor to turn you onto it, via their rad cover of Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man":

We'll find each other where we promise.

He definitely revolves near the worlds of Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, Fleet Foxes and Sufjan Stevens, but J Tillman is truly his own deal.
His newest album on Western Vinyl, Year In The Kingdom, is a lovely, sad, inspiring folk-y adventure.

He's playing here at the Bell House on Nov. 16th.
I'll be there and I'd venture to say you may want to be as well.

Also, on a sad note, Bailey's cat, Max, passed away this weekend.
He was a really sweet fella and his snuggling ways really won me over.
I'm now a dog and cat person.
Miss you Max.
Hope you're chasing mice in Cat Heaven.

Tonight, we're going to find our lover.

CMJ happened, then a Bachelor party in Milwaukee that culminated in attending the Vikings - Packers game at Lambeau,
and somewhere in there I managed to sneak in speaking at the Boards Summit
as well as attending a dinner party at Philip Glass' house in which he played a piece on his piano in his parlor
that he specifically composed for the night.

So basically I've been insanely busy and that's why I haven't posted for a bit.
That said, I just want to share a little diddy from Devendra Banhart from his new album that I'm digging.
Enjoy.

Also, what the heck is going on in the midwest?
Subliminal animal porn in bathroom decorations?

Ashes, ashes, all circles vanish.

Seeing Broadcast tonight at Le Poisson Rouge with Atlas Sound.
Going to be a great show.
Just starting to really get into their new album.
This track is classic Broadcast.

Plus I got to pick up some 45s today from my favorite DJ shop, Deadly Dragon.
