Wave/new wave.

Stopped by Other Music the other day and picked up this newer release from Honest Jons.
I don't know much about it, but essentially it's a compilation and quite an interesting record.
It's called "New Wave Dance Music From South Africa", though nothing like any new wave I know of, as it has a super different aesthetic/style. Really digging it.

It's no relief, it sounds to me, just as sweet.

First-off, I made a nice, albeit small vinyl haul at Other Music today at lunchtime.
Oldies and newies.

Plus I've been listening to a petty darn solid record this afternoon from Delta Spirit.
Seems to be aligned in many ways to Dr. Dog/Cold War Kids/Wilco.
Check this track out.

Andrew knows exactly what I'm talking about.

There was a time in my life when I couldn't stand the Chemical Brothers.
It was in my early years at W+K, particularly when the band was "hot" and their songs (or Moby or Fatboy Slim) were included on every rip we did.
This made me instantly despise them.
Therefore, it's been with some surprise that over the years, I have actually found myself digging some of their music.
Recently, their new album, Further, came across my desk and it's been sneaking into my shuffle mode (when I go that route) and I'm liking what I'm hearing.
Either I'm getting softer in my old age, or losing my edge, or finally putting away some of my elitism, or they're actually writing good material, or a combo of all of this.
Have a listen:

P.S. I'm not losing my edge.

How come everything you want is just out of reach?

Two great things already today.
1. I quickly hustled over to Sotheby's to catch the last glimpse of the Polaroid collection before it went to auction.

Really interesting/historical work there.

2. E*Rock sent me this super awesome (& huge) print that now resides on my office wall (until I get it framed):

Plus, I'm finally getting more into Jason Collett's most recent solo album "Rat a Tat Tat".
Parts of it remind me of Joseph Arthur a bit.

Groupies come out of the dark.

I picked up this amazing compilation from Other Music a little while ago,but I'm just going through it again and remembering how great it is.
Stylistically, it's a little bit all over the place, but overall, it's a great collection.
I particularly love this track:
